Reverse description A large voided cross pattée extending to the inner beaded border divides the field into four quadrants, each containing a curved annulet or crescent ornament, characteristic of the Period B or C penny type. The cross head bears a prominent central pellet or fleur finial at the top arm. A beaded inner circle frames the cross design, with the moneyer's legend in Roman capitals distributed around the outer field. The overall design closely follows the Anglo-Norman penny tradition adapted for Scottish princely coinage.
