| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device features the triskelion, or triskeles, the ancient symbol of the Isle of Man, consisting of three armoured legs in spurs conjoined at the thigh and radiating symmetrically in rotational arrangement. The initials I D, for James Derby (James Stanley, 10th Earl of Derby), appear flanking the central junction of the legs, accompanied by small stars. The circumferential Latin legend QUOCUNQUE · IECERIS · STABIT, meaning 'Wheresoever you throw it, it will stand', encircles the device, with the denomination numeral 1 also present in the legend field. The coin exhibits a milled border on both obverse and reverse. |
