Obverse description Facing crowned royal effigy of King Henry III rendered in the stylised Romanesque manner characteristic of Short Cross coinage, centred within a plain inner circle. The face is depicted frontally with a beaded crown above and curling hair or drapery to either side of the neck. A double band of beading frames the portrait within the inner circle. The surrounding field carries the royal legend in uncial Latin lettering divided by the portrait, reading HENRICVS REX.
