| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Henry III at center, rendered in the schematic Romanesque style characteristic of mid-13th century English hammered coinage. The king's face is depicted frontally with pellet eyes, a stylized beard, and long flowing hair falling to either side, surmounted by a plain crown ornamented with pellets along the band. The bust is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery of the flan. The die work exhibits the bold, slightly crude relief typical of the class 3b Long Cross coinage. |
