| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Henry III rendered in the flat, stylised manner characteristic of mid-13th-century hammered English coinage. The king is depicted full-face with a beaded or jewelled crown, with scrollwork and pellet ornaments visible on the crown and about the face. A beaded inner circle surrounds the royal portrait, and the peripheral legend is struck in uncial Latin characters. The design occupies the entire flan, with the legend running continuously around the outer field. |
