| Obverse description | Central round hole framed by the royal cypher 'GRI' (Georgius Rex Imperator) rendered in large interlaced script letters below the hole, surmounted by the St. Edward's Crown above. Flanking the central device on either side are stylised decorative scrollwork elements in the form of outward-facing bird or serpent heads with flowing plumage, evoking indigenous Melanesian artistic motifs. The designer's initials appear in the field. The entire design is surrounded by a beaded border at the rim, with no peripheral legend on this face. |
