South Africa's penny coinage of the late 1920s was produced under a minting arrangement that saw dies supplied from the Royal Mint in London, with striking carried out locally at Pretoria. The 1926 issue is notably scarce relative to later dates in this range — mintage figures dropped sharply as the Pact Government of Hertzog pursued fiscal tightening following the economic disruptions of the mid-decade. The 1928 and 1930 dates are considerably more available in circulated grades.
KM#14.2 distinguishes this subtype by the presence of the dot after "PENNY" on the reverse, a detail that separates it from the earlier 14.1 issues.
