Obverse description The obverse is entirely typographic, bearing no pictorial device. The merchant's name GAISFORD & EDMONDS arcs along the upper periphery, while NEW ZEALAND curves along the lower periphery. The central field carries a six-line legend in raised capital letters reading PORK / & GENERAL / BUTCHERS / COLOMBO STREET / CHRIST / CHURCH, identifying the nature and location of the issuing business. The design is utilitarian in character, consistent with colonial New Zealand trade token practice, and is bordered by a toothed or beaded rim.
