Obverse description Right-facing truncated effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, as modelled by Arnold Machin. The sovereign's portrait is rendered in fine relief with elegant detail. The legend ELIZABETH THE SECOND PM arcs around the upper periphery, with the date below the bust in the lower field. Raised lettering in Latin script frames the design within the coin's circular boundary.

Reverse description A Loaghtan sheep — the native four-horned breed of the Isle of Man — is depicted in bold relief, standing in profile and superimposed over a simplified topographical outline map of the Isle of Man. The design, engraved by Barry Stanton, captures the characteristic heavy fleece and curved horns of this rare breed with naturalistic detail. The circular legend ISLE OF MAN arcs across the upper field, while ONE PENNY is inscribed along the lower periphery, separated by raised pellet stops at each side.
