| Reverse description | Central device depicting a crowned portcullis with chains, an adaptation of the historic Badge of Henry VII and the present Badge of the Palace of Westminster, rendered in fine detail. The portcullis is surmounted by a Tudor crown. The legend ONE PENNY arcs above the central device, while the numeral 1 appears in the lower field below the portcullis. The reverse was designed by Christopher Ironside, who also created the reverse designs for the original decimal coinage introduced in 1971. |
