Guernsey's bronze penny survived into the late 1980s well after the United Kingdom had switched to copper-plated steel in 1992 — though the transition pressure was already building across the Crown Dependencies. The "non-magnetic" designation distinguishes these from the steel-core issues that followed, a distinction that matters primarily to collectors sorting mixed lots of late-issue Guernsey copper.
KM#40 covers a six-year span during which Guernsey was actively rationalizing its independent coinage series, eventually aligning more closely with mainland specifications.
