Obverse description The obverse features the first definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by sculptor Mary Gillick, depicted as a youthful laureate bust facing right, adorned with a wreath of laurel in her hair and a ribbon tied at the nape. The portrait is uncrowned and lightly draped at the shoulder, conveying a classical elegance characteristic of the Coronation coinage. The circular legend reads + ELIZABETH II DEI GRA:BRITT:OMN:REGINA F:D:, incorporating the abbreviated titles denoting her role as Queen of all the Britains and Defender of the Faith. The field is smooth and unadorned, allowing the high-relief portrait to dominate the design. The coin is bordered by a continuous ring of beads around the full circumference.
