| Beschrijving keerzijde | At centre, a Roman numeral I surmounted by a Tudor crown, the whole flanked symmetrically by two branches of oak bearing acorns, forming a wreath. The date 2002 is displayed in two parts either side of the central device, with 20 to the left and 02 to the right. The design is rendered in high relief consistent with Maundy coinage traditions, with the crowned numeral serving as the denomination indicator. The overall composition is restrained and heraldic in character, faithful to the long-established Maundy penny reverse type. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Maundy coinage occupies a constitutional niche entirely its own — distributed annually by the sovereign at a Church of England service, the amounts matching the monarch's age in pence. The 2002 set marks Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee year, and gold Maundy pieces were struck specifically for that occasion, departing from the standard silver issues that have been the norm since the 18th century.
Spink 4215 confirms the gold composition as a deliberate jubilee variant rather than standard production. The regular silver Maundy penny remains the working ceremonial coin; these gold strikes were never intended for the recipient's purse.
