Obverse description Laureate and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, as modelled by Mary Gillick. The legend QUEEN·ELIZABETH·THE·SECOND arcs around the periphery, with the engraver's initials M·G· incused on the truncation. Two varieties exist: KM#24.1 depicts the portrait without a shoulder strap, while KM#24.2 includes a shoulder strap detail on the truncation. The portrait is rendered in a refined, classical style characteristic of Gillick's work for Commonwealth coinage of the early Elizabethan era.
