Obverse description Central round hole flanked by two stylised birds of paradise with outstretched wings rendered in an Art Deco manner, designed by George Kruger Gray. A St Edward's Crown surmounts the upper portion of the design above the hole. Below the hole, the royal cipher E·R·I· appears in large interlaced script. The engraver's initials K·G are incuse in the field to either side of the crown base. The entire design is encircled by a beaded border.
