| Obverse description | The obverse features a centrally placed circular perforation surrounded by a bold circular legend reading EDWARD·VIII·KING·EMPEROR in raised Latin characters, distributed evenly around the annular field. Surmounting the legend at the top of the coin is a finely detailed Imperial State Crown rendered in high relief, its arches, crosses, and fleurs-de-lis clearly delineated. The outer rim is bordered by a continuous dentilated pattern of raised rectangular teeth. This design, notably, omits the traditional royal portrait — a distinctive and historically significant departure reflecting Edward VIII's personal preference — making the crowned legend the sole royal identifier on the face. |
