Reverse description A central cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing three pellets arranged in a triangular grouping. A trefoil ornament appears at the center where the arms of the cross intersect, a device common to Irish hammered pennies of this era. The surrounding Latin legend identifies the issuing mint, reading VIL LADE TRIM, an abbreviated reference to the town of Trim. The flan is characteristically small and uneven, consistent with hand-struck provincial coinage of the late fifteenth century.
