| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of King Edward I within a beaded inner circle, the effigy rendered in the stylised manner characteristic of late 13th-century English hammered coinage. The king wears a floriate crown with three prominent fleurs, and his hair falls in short curls at the temples. Drapery is indicated at the base of the bust by a simple neckline detail. The surrounding legend, in uncial Latin characters, reads + ЄDW R' ANGL' DNS hyB, proclaiming Edward as King of England and Lord of Ireland. The field between the inner beaded circle and the outer legend is plain. |
