Aanvullende informatie

Edward de Carle established his Melbourne hardware and ironmongery business in the early 1850s, riding the commercial explosion of the Victorian gold rush. Tradesman's tokens like this one filled a genuine void — colonial copper coinage was chronically undersupplied, and private merchants who could afford the die costs issued their own pieces to make change. The "Tasmania" attribution in the name reflects a cataloguing convention rather than any operational presence on the island.

Andrews 105 is among the more frequently encountered de Carle varieties, suggesting a substantial original striking.
