Reverse description A bold voided cross divides the reverse into four quarters, each containing a prominent fleur-de-lis motif arranged symmetrically around the central cross. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the moneyer's legend occupying the surrounding field. The cross terminals extend to the beaded border, a hallmark of Period A penny design. The style reflects the Anglo-Norman artistic tradition prevalent in northern English and Scottish border mints of the mid-twelfth century.
