Struck to commemorate the coronation of Charles III on 6 May 2023, this Jersey issue is among the earliest gold proof commemoratives released for the new reign. Jersey has maintained its own coinage distinct from UK legal tender since the 19th century, issuing under the authority of the States assembly rather than the Crown — a distinction that makes coronation coinage from the bailiwick carry a different constitutional footing than comparable Royal Mint output.
The 22-carat specification mirrors historic British gold coinage tradition, unchanged since the Tudor period.
