| Reverse description | Saint Martin of Tours is depicted enthroned and facing front, wearing episcopal vestments and a mitre, holding a tall processional cross in his right hand and a closed book in his left hand, both attributes of his saintly office. The figure is rendered in a bold, somewhat stylised late Gothic manner typical of Netherlandish hammered coinage of the early sixteenth century. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, with the circular Latin legend SANCTVS MARTIN distributed around the field between the beaded border and the coin's irregular edge. |
