The cross is enclosed within a plain inner circle, with the moneyer and mint legend distributed around the periphery in Roman capitals. A beaded or plain outer border frames the design. The die-cutting is rough and characteristic of the earliest Norwegian hammered silver coinage, closely modeled on contemporary English penny types. |
