Obverse description Crude hammered effigy of King Olav Tryggvason in profile facing right, depicted as a crowned bust with stylized drapery, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The portrait is executed in the Anglo-Saxon penny tradition, reflecting the strong English influence on early Norwegian coinage. The surrounding field bears the Latin royal legend distributed around the effigy. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of late Viking Age hammered silver coinage.
