| Obverse description | Frontal bust of King Olaf I rendered in Byzantine imperial style, depicted wearing a pointed crown or tiara adorned with pendilia and pellets at the sides, with a stylized draped bust below. The effigy is executed in a flat, schematic manner characteristic of late 11th-century Scandinavian hammered coinage, with large almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, and a short beard. Fragmentary Latin legend surrounds the figure in the field, reading OLAF REX D. Small decorative elements and additional figural motifs occupy the flanking field areas, reflecting the Byzantine iconographic influence prevalent in Danish royal coinage of this period. |
