Reverse description A plain cross occupies the central field, set within a beaded inner circle typical of medieval Scandinavian pennies. The cross divides the inner field into four quadrants. A circumferential Latin legend encircles the design between the beaded ring and the beaded outer rim, invoking a religious blessing consistent with contemporary ecclesiastical numismatic practice.

Additional information

Magnus VI, called Lagabøte — "the Law-Mender" — overhauled Norwegian coinage as part of the same reforming impulse that produced the Landlaw of 1274, the first unified national law code in Norwegian history. The penning issues of his reign are poorly documented in terms of mintage, but Skaare's attribution work remains the primary reference for distinguishing his issues from those of his father Haakon IV. Dies were cut at Bergen.
