Magnus Barefoot — Magnús berfœttr — ruled Norway from 1093 until his death in an Irish ambush in 1103, and his coinage reflects a kingdom still finding its monetary footing after the fitful introduction of native Norwegian coin production under his predecessors. The penning issues of his reign are among the thinnest and most irregular struck in medieval Scandinavia, a product of primitive hammering technique and inconsistent blanks rather than any design intent.
