Obverse description Crowned bust of the king facing left, rendered in the crude primitive style characteristic of late Viking-age Norwegian coinage. The effigy depicts the monarch wearing a decorative crown adorned with pellets, with facial features schematically indicated. A scepter or sword is held before the bust, extending diagonally across the lower field. The border is formed by a beaded or pellet ring encircling the design.

Reverse description A cross potent (crutch cross) superimposed over a saltire (St. Andrew's cross) at the center, enclosed within an inner circle. The surrounding annular field contains a Latin legend recording the name of the mint master, with the inscription disposed outside the inner circle. The overall design reflects the Anglo-Saxon penny tradition that strongly influenced contemporary Norwegian coinage.
