Obverse description Crowned royal bust facing right, depicted in a rudimentary medieval style characteristic of late Viking-Age Norwegian coinage. The effigy wears a beaded or jewelled crown and a draped collar, with a sceptre held before the face. The bust is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a partially legible Latin legend disposed around the periphery of the field.

Reverse description A double-line cross divides the reverse into four quarters, each containing an ornamental device consisting of a lozenge (rhombus) and a trefoil (clover-leaf) superimposed upon one another, lending the design a foliate and geometric character typical of Anglo-Scandinavian penny coinage of the period. A partially legible or wholly blundered Latin legend surrounds the central cross motif within a beaded border.
