Obverse description Central field features a raised pellet at the centre, enclosed within a plain inner circle from which a crescent or curved band extends, adorned with three trefoil or quatrefoil floral ornaments at its terminals and midpoint. The inner circle is bounded by a beaded border, outside of which radiates a pattern of alternating wedge-shaped or lozenge devices arranged around the periphery, interspersed with additional floral rosettes. The peripheral legend, rendered in uncial Latin characters, reads HAQVINVS DUX, identifying the issuer as Duke Håkon. The overall design reflects the Romanesque-influenced die-cutting style characteristic of late 13th-century Norwegian hammered coinage.
