Haakon VI ruled Norway during a period of acute demographic collapse — the Black Death had killed roughly half the Norwegian population by the 1350s, devastating tax revenues and fragmenting the economy. Small silver pennings of this reign circulated in a kingdom still struggling to maintain basic fiscal infrastructure, which likely kept mintages low and survival rates lower still.
