Beschrijving voorzijde Crowned royal bust facing front, rendered in a bold and somewhat schematic medieval style typical of Norwegian hammered coinage. The effigy features a prominent crown above the head, with simplified facial features visible in the field. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle bordering the rim, characteristic of 14th-century Scandinavian penny coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Norwegian pennings of this period were struck under the reign of Magnus VII (Magnus Eriksson), who held the Norwegian crown from 1319 alongside the Swedish throne — a dual kingship that stretched administrative resources and left provincial minting inconsistent at best. Output from Bergen and other Norwegian mints during these decades was irregular, and survival rates for small silver denominations are poor given their extensive use in everyday transactions.

Skaare 268 represents one of the more precisely attributed types within a series that resists clean chronological ordering.
