The striking is off-center and irregular, consistent with hand-hammered coinage of the late 12th to early 13th century. | Descripción del reverso | The reverse of this hammered silver penning bears a crude cross dividing the field, with the repeated legend VE VE VE VE distributed across the quadrants, interpreted as an abbreviated reference to the Veøy mint. The lettering is irregularly spaced and primitively engraved, consistent with provincial Norwegian minting practice of the period circa 1170–1205. The coin's fragmentary and irregular flan renders portions of the design and inscription incomplete. The overall style is characteristic of the debased, small-module pennings attributed to the Veøy Mint under the late Eirík Magnusson or Sverre Sigurdsson period. |
