| Reverse description | A bird displayed with wings spread and head turned to the right, likely a stylised eagle or dove, occupying the central field. The figure is executed in a rough, archaic manner consistent with Scandinavian hammered pennings of the reign of Magnus Barefoot (c. 1095–1110). A surrounding peripheral legend is present but largely unreadable owing to weak striking and irregular flan edges. |

Struck under Olaf Kyrre or his immediate successors during a period when Norwegian royal authority was still consolidating after the upheavals of the mid-eleventh century, this issue belongs to a coinage tradition heavily influenced by Anglo-Saxon penny types — a direct consequence of the English moneyers and dies imported to Scandinavian mints during this period. Skaare 61 is among the more thinly documented types in Norwegian medieval numismatics, with attribution windows spanning fifteen years precisely because mint organization and royal succession were both unstable enough to make tight dating impossible.
