To the left of the cross, a stylized figure — possibly a bishop or ecclesiastical symbol — is visible. Runic characters are distributed around the periphery of the coin, forming the ownership inscription attributing the die to Gunnar. The execution is bold but rough, consistent with the hammered technique and the limited die-cutting technology of eleventh-century Norway. |
