| Obverse description | Facing bust of the king rendered in a primitive Anglo-Scandinavian style, depicted wearing a domed helmet with a central finial; the effigy is shown full-face with stylized facial features including dot eyes and a broad nose. The figure is draped in what appears to be a mantle or armor, with the arms visible at either side. A partially legible Latin legend surrounds the portrait in the field, executed in the irregular lettering typical of eleventh-century Norwegian hammered coinage. The overall style reflects the strong English die-cutting influence prevalent during the reign of Olaf Kyrre. |
