Obverse description Central device features the ornate Cyrillic imperial monogram of Tsar Alexander III — a large decorative letter 'A' interlaced with scrolling acanthus-style flourishes — surmounted by a small Imperial Russian crown with ribbons extending to either side. The Roman numeral 'III' appears at the base of the monogram, identifying the regnal number of the tsar. The field is plain and unadorned, with the entire design framed by a fine milled inner border of uniform denticles running along the coin's periphery.
