| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of Austria-Burgundy arms occupying the central field, displaying the complex heraldic quarterings of Philip II's dominions including the bars of Hungary, the fleurs-de-lis of Burgundy, and the lion of Flanders. The royal crown surmounts the escutcheon, rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of late 16th-century Netherlands billon coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery, partially visible on the irregular flan. The overall design conveys the sovereign authority of the Spanish Habsburg ruler over the Low Countries. |

| Reverse description | A saltire cross (Saint Andrew's cross) displayed in the center of the field, with a Burgundian firesteel (fire-iron) device at each of the four tips, referencing the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Burgundian heritage of the Spanish Habsburgs. The mint mark of Tournai, a tower, appears at the center of the cross. The date 1593 is placed at the top of the field, and a partial Latin legend encircles the design along the rim. |
