| Reverse description | The Portuguese royal arms displayed on a shield, surmounted by an open crown issuing rays and flanked by two ornate laurel branches curving symmetrically around the central device. The shield bears the characteristic Portuguese escutcheons and castles. The overall design occupies the full flan and is enclosed within a beaded border, consistent with colonial Goa mint workmanship of the period. |

| Additional information |
Pedro IV's tenure as king of Portugal lasted precisely three days in May 1826 before he abdicated in favor of his daughter Maria, yet his name continued to appear on Portuguese Indian coinage well into 1828 — the administrative lag between Lisbon's decisions and Goa's mint operations was substantial enough that coins struck long after his effective reign had ended still bore his titles. The Goa mint at this period was already in institutional decline, operating with aging equipment and inconsistent silver supplies from the Estado da India's shrinking territorial base.
