Obverse description Facing right laureate and draped bust of King José I within the inner circle, rendered in a somewhat crude hammered style typical of the Goa mint. The legend around the bust reads IOZE___PH.I R. P. with the date below, referencing the king's name and royal title. The portrait displays characteristic features of mid-18th century Portuguese colonial coinage, with visible hair detail and drapery at the shoulder. Various die varieties exist, including notable legend errors such as IOZ3PH and IOZE PRIM, as well as inverted S letters documented across multiple years of issue.
