| Obverse description | Central field bearing the tughra-style Arabic legend of Sultan Mahmud II, reading 'Sultan Mahmud Khan' in flowing calligraphic script, enclosed within an arabesque ornamental border. The Hijri accession year 1223 appears below the sultan's name. The entire design is executed in a crude, hand-engraved style characteristic of provincial Ottoman hammered coinage, with the legend occupying the majority of the flan. |
