正面描述 Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra (imperial cipher) of Sultan Abdulmecid I, rendered in ornate calligraphic Arabic script with characteristic looped and vertical strokes. The denomination numeral '1' appears in Arabic script below the tughra in the lower field. The design is without the flower ornament that distinguishes this variety from related issues. The plain field surrounding the tughra is unadorned, consistent with the 'without flower' type classification.

附加信息

Abdülmecid I was only sixteen when he ascended to the Ottoman throne in 1839, the same year his father Mahmud II died and Egyptian governor Muhammad Ali nearly took Constantinople with his advancing army. This coin was struck at the very moment the empire was in existential crisis, saved only by European intervention. The "without flower" designation distinguishes this type from related issues bearing a floral ornament on the reverse — a small but cataloguable die variation that has caused persistent confusion between KM#220 and adjacent types.
