Obverse description Central field occupied by the tughra-style Arabic calligraphic legend of Sultan Abdulhamid I, rendered in an intricate foliated script within a plain inner circle. The legend reads 'Sultan Abdulhamid' in stylized Arabic characters. The surrounding border consists of a continuous wreath or leaf-and-bead ornamental ring typical of Ottoman provincial hammered coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, characteristic of hand-struck copper issues from the Tripoli mint. The overall design is executed in a provincial style with bold, somewhat crude relief.
