Yugoslavia's 1994 coinage was issued by a country that had already ceased to exist in any meaningful political sense. By this point the rump Federal Republic — Serbia and Montenegro — was under comprehensive UN sanctions imposed in 1992, and the economy was in free fall through one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes ever recorded. The January 1994 redenomination replaced the old dinar at a ratio of 1 billion to one, making coins like this one obsolete almost before they left the mint.
