Obverse description The obverse field is occupied entirely by a bold Persian inscription in two registers, divided by a horizontal line. The upper register bears the royal epithet of the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II rendered in large, deeply struck Naskh script, while the lower register continues the imperial legend. The AH date appears at the top of the field. The flan is irregular and slightly crude in outline, consistent with hammered coinage of Indian princely states of this period.
