Sayaji Rao II came to power as a minor under British-supervised regency, and the Baroda state's coinage during his reign reflects the administrative tensions of that arrangement — local types maintained as a concession to tradition while the East India Company tightened its grip on Gujarat. The C#33.2 variety distinguishes itself from the closely related C#33.1 by subtle differences in the Arabic numeral rendering on the reverse, a distinction that tripped up catalogers for decades.
