Obverse description The obverse presents a bilingual inscriptional design typical of Baroda Princely State coinage of the mid-nineteenth century. The field is divided by a horizontal line, above which appears a Devanagari legend reading 'श्री स' (Sri Sa, an abbreviated honorific of the ruler's name), and below which the Persian legend 'سياجي راو' (Sayaji Rao) is rendered in a cursive Nasta'liq style. The design is characteristic of hammered coinage, exhibiting an irregular flan with surface granularity and patination consistent with copper circulation issues of the period. Decorative pellet ornaments flank the inscriptions in the lower register. The overall layout reflects the Indo-Persian administrative tradition prevalent in Gaekwad-issued coinage.
