Additional information

Dungarpur was among the smaller Rajput states in the Vagad region, and its coinage authority persisted well into the twentieth century largely because of the princely system's administrative inertia under the British Raj. By 1944, most comparable states had abandoned independent copper issues entirely. Lakshman Singh ruled Dungarpur from 1918 until accession to the Indian Union in 1948, making this late-period issue one of the final autonomous coinages from a state that would cease to exist as a sovereign entity within four years of its striking.
