In 1844, Lakar Shah led a rebellion against the ruling authority in Chamba, a small hill state tucked into the western Himalayas above the Ravi River. His forces briefly held enough territorial control to issue coinage in his own name — a direct assertion of independent rule that proved short-lived. The rebellion was suppressed, and Lakar Shah's issues were struck for so narrow a window that surviving examples are genuinely rare rather than merely scarce by catalog convention.
