Obverse description Central field dominated by a large, boldly struck Devanagari legend in cursive style, occupying the majority of the flan. The inscription identifying the Ujjain mint is rendered in large, deeply incised characters characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Indian princely state hammered coinage. The irregular flan exhibits typical hand-struck fabric with slightly uneven edges. The field is otherwise unadorned, consistent with the utilitarian aesthetic of copper subsidiary coinage of Gwalior State under Jayaji Rao Scindia.
